Richard Murphy Obituary
SARASOTA, FL – Richard M. (Dick, Richie) Murphy, 83, formerly of Plaistow, NH, passed away on July 28, 2025 at the Tidewell Hospice House in Sarasota, FL surrounded by his loving family.
Dick was born in Fitchburg, he was the son of Maurice F. and E. Cecile (Moge) Murphy. He was a graduate of St Peter High School, Worcester, Class of 1959, after which he received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Dick served during the Vietnam War in the Army Transportation Corp from 1966 until 1968. For the last 32 years, prior to retirement, he worked as an owner's representative/clerk of the works for multiple jobs in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Dick was a member of the Music Masters of the Merrimack Valley for 28 years; he sang in numerous church choirs in the Merrimack Valley and performed in the Christian Organization of Plaistow (COOP) Show for 10 years with his daughters. He also enjoyed his many travel adventures with family and friends.
Dick is survived by his wife Gayle A. Murphy of Sarasota, FL, daughters Lisa M. and Christopher Langevin of Jefferson, MA, Trisha S. and William Hartman of Tabernace, NJ, and Megan M. Murphy and Brad Grider of Steamboat Springs, CO, and his son William (Billy) B. and Jennifer Sisson of Newburyport, MA. He also leaves behind his sister Maureen E. Piirainen Lemieux of Grafton, MA, and his grandchildren Madeleine and Jacob Langevin, Molly, Kerry, and Liam Hartman, Maria and Raymond Widmer, and Brennan Sisson; as well as the mother of his girls Ann E. Higgins of West Palm Beach, FL, and many loving nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Maurice F. and E. Cecile (Moge) Murphy and his great niece Holly K. Piirainen.
ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, August 20th from 9AM until 12AM followed by a funeral home chapel service at 12PM at the Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main Street, Haverhill. Burial will be private.
