Alberta M. Tweedell, (Bert), age 93, of Quincy, died on Thursday, January 11, 2024, in Blessing Hospital. She was born on March 24, 1930, in Pike County, IL, the daughter of Lester and Mary Frances (Meyer) Duncan. She married William A. Tweedell on September 2nd, 1950, in Quincy. He preceded her in death on July 19, 1979.
Bert worked for Motorola after graduating from high school, and she later worked for and retired from the Quincy Herald Whig.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Bert was a people person who didn't know a stranger. She had friends of all ages, and she enjoyed talking with them and anyone else who came along. She looked forward to her weekly bingo nights with her "firemen buddies" and her trips to the casino. She even taught her granddaughters how to play poker. She loved the outdoors and animals but was especially partial to miniature dachshunds. Bert enjoyed cooking and baking and shared many recipes with her family. She was best known for her homemade noodles and pies. Throughout her life, she was always up for an adventure and liked to travel, but her very best days were those she spent with her family.
She is survived by:
THREE CHILDREN: Kathryn Herman (Terence); Mark Tweedell and Jeffrey Tweedell (Sharon) all of Quincy.
GRANDCHILDREN: Adam Herman of Duluth, MN, Colin Herman (Marissa Edwards) of Quincy, Samantha Paterson (Stephen) of Overland Park, KS, Taylor Solaro (Joseph) of Clayton, MO, Lauren Cox (Casey) of Louisville, KY, and Audra Tweedell of Quincy.
GREAT-GRANDCHILD: Lucy Herman of Duluth, MN.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
In addition to her husband, Alberta was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Gwendolyn Miller and Kenneth Duncan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 15, 2024, at 10:00 AM in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Inurnment in Greenmount Cemetery. There is no visitation, but friends are invited to the Mass. Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice, the Quincy Notre Dame Foundation or to the Quincy Public Schools Foundation. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
