Anaise Haubrich Obituary

QUINCY -- Anaise E. "Nai" Haubrich, 105, of Quincy, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015, at Sunset Home.

Mrs. Haubrich was born Oct. 5, 1909, in Mansura, La., a daughter of Valbone and Irma "Mimi" Scallan. She married George W. Haubrich on Aug. 5, 1933. He preceded her in death Jan. 6, 1995.

George and Anaise started a Catholic publishing business, Parish Action Magazine, in 1939. The business remains in existence and is known as PAM Printers and Publishers, publishing and printing "Pray Together" missalettes for Catholic churches throughout the United States. She was active with the business until her retirement in 1990.

Mrs. Haubrich was a woman of strong faith, a lifelong Roman Catholic. She was a longtime member of St. Peter Catholic Church.

She was a gifted artist, with paintings displayed throughout the community and gracing the covers of many "Pray Together" missalettes.

Holidays and family birthday celebrations were important to her. Large Christmas gatherings at her home were filled with sing-alongs, live music and food, and she always prepared special dinners for the birthdays of her four sons, their wives and her grandchildren.

Nai never forgot her French and New Orleans-area roots, and her French-Creole cooking recipes were handed down to her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her sons and their wives, George E. Haubrich and wife, Marolyn, of Trophy Club, Texas, Ronald and wife, Bonita, J. Michael and wife, Collete, and Joseph and wife, Joan, all of Quincy; Anaise and George also raised the Rev. Don Blickhan and Diane Blickhan Devlin; grandchildren, Terri, Brad, Ann, Sherry, Timothy, Anthony, Mary, John Michael, Nicole, David, Rose Marie, Andrew, Gregory, Mark, Amy and Paula; great-grandchildren, Hanna, Zachary, Connor, Jeffery, Jack, Wess, Reed, Matthew, Weston, Justin, Aaron, Zakery, Lily, Blaise, Reis, Shannon, Luke, Ben, Ella, Reed, Jude, Blake, Austin, Asheligh, Cassidy, Gabrielle, Sam, Toni, Zane, Zavier, Kelan, Jaidan, Sheridan and Ashtan; great-great grandchildren, Blakleigh, Emmalyn, Georgia, Audrey, Vivienne and Elijah; and two sisters, "Cree" Watermeier of New Orleans and Sr. Lucy Scallan, DC, of Shreveport, La.; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers and sisters, Fr. E.B. Scallan and Fr. B.A. Scallan, Sr. Aloysious Scallan, Leo Scallan, Judith, Josephine, Agnes and Rhea.

Wonderful life story and well-lived through five generations, as in the photo taken this summer. Remembering well Mr. and Mrs. George Haubrich as your grandparents and fellow St. Peter's parishoners. "Pray Together" was in nearly every Catholic church our family attended on family vacations - and I still look for PAM Printers, Quincy, IL footnote.
