Barbara Jean Deters, age 83, passed away in Quincy, IL on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at Bickford Cottage. She was born in Quincy, IL on December 26, 1940, a daughter to Bernard J. and Marie (Harman) Weiman, Sr. She married John "Jack" William Deters on April 8, 1961, in St. John Catholic Church. He survives.
Barbara graduated from Quincy Senior High School. She was employed in the office of Deters Dairy, eventually managing the Farm Products Division of Deters Dairy and later Anderson Erickson Dairy. She was a bank teller at United Community Credit Union and served on the board of directors. Her most cherished role, however, was "homemaker."
Barbara was a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She lovingly sewed baby blankets for each new grand and great-grandchild, leaving them with a beautiful keepsake. Barb enjoyed traveling with family members to Rutledge, MO. She loved holding the babies in the family and trips to Florida with family members. She was always up for a card game with her grandkids or her friends at Bickford and she thoroughly enjoyed her season ticket to the Little Theater.
When Barbara wasn't attending her family's activities, she enjoyed collecting antiques, gardening, baking, and canning. She was an active member of St. Peter Catholic Church and participated in St. Peter Social Concerns, St. Peter Adoration Chapel, the Living Waters Prayer Group, and the Funeral Luncheon Ministry.
In addition to her husband, Jack, Barb is survived by her children: Patricia Deters of Peoria, IL; Jeffrey (Chad Stevenson) of Quincy, IL; Theresa (Ron) Reichert of Quincy, IL; Allen (Annette) Deters of Fowler, IL; Joseph (Amy) Deters of Loraine, IL; and Andrew (Jennifer) Deters of Quincy, IL. A sister, Mary (James) Dietrich of Quincy, IL and sister-in-law, Norma Wieman of Quincy, IL. Grandchildren: Victoria Deters; Benjamin, Morgan and Samuel Catt; Cody (Shawnee) Deters; Emily (Quentin) Clark, Niki (Clayton) Cawthon; Jordan (Shelby) Reichert; Olivia (Conner) Kelle; Jessica (Garrett) Kestner; Rachel Deters; Allison (Ryan Hurt) Deters; Alex (Meghan) Deters; Johnathan (Alyssa) Deters; Nadeane, Charlie, and Mattilyn Deters; and Jack and Caroline Deters.
