Betty Frances Sparks, age 83, of Quincy, died Friday, June 2, 2023, in her home.
Betty was born May 23, 1940, in Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of John J. and Frances Carl Walton. She married Everett Emil Sparks on October 18, 1972, in Quincy Illinois. He preceded her in death on February 4, 2020.
Betty was a graduate of Quincy High School and of Gem City Business College. She worked in the billing department at St. Mary Hospital and later Blessing Hospital for over 45 years. She and her husband Everett loved to travel, having traveled to every state with the exception of Hawaii. They also enjoyed camping at the Lake of the Oaks in Missouri and were lifelong members of South Side Boat Club. She was an avid bird watcher with countless bird feeders on her property; she especially loved owls. Betty was a devoted and loving grandparent. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include: a son, Tim Wiemelt, Sr. of Quincy; a step-son, Michael Sparks of Drexel Hill, PA; three grandchildren, Timothy L. Wiemelt, Jr. of Quincy, Kara (Ricky) Francis of Taylor, MO, and Kevin (Morgan Porter) Sparks of Drexel Hill, PA; 7 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and a brother Glen (Joanne) Walton of Mendon, IL.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Dale and Kay Walton; and a brother in infancy.
Visitation: 10:00 am - 11:00 am, Tuesday June 13, 2023, at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
Services: 11:00 am Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Rev Steve Disseler officiating. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery.
