Chester Couchman Obituary

Chester M. Couchman, 81, of Quincy, died at 6:34 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2018, at Good Samaritan Home.

He was born Sept. 17, 1936, in Arbela, Mo., a son of Lewis Samuel Couchman and Vertie Ilene Sprague Couchman. He married Mary Virginia Reagan on Oct. 26, 1957, in Quincy. She preceded him in death on March 2, 2003.

Chester proudly served in the United States Navy from 1955-1959. He served in the Shore Patrol as well as being a Sea Bee. He worked at Quincy Compressor for 39 1/2 years until his retirement in 1999. Over the years he also worked various part-time jobs in the Quincy area. He was a passionate woodworker, and was a member of the Quincy Woodworkers Guild. Chester loved to bowl, play softball, watch all kinds of sports, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He and Mary were members of the Adams County Bootkickers, and enjoyed doing it with their grandchildren.

Survivors include his very special, dear friend, Shirley Eager of Quincy; four children, Jeffrey Couchman, Ladena (James) Steinkamp, Lucinda Couchman and Eric Couchman, all of Quincy; eight grandchildren, Arryn (Chad) Carson of Murphysboro, Cassandra Couchman of Liberty, Zachrey ( Lisa) Couchman of Altus, Okla., Tex (Jessica) Waller of Abilene, Texas, Claire Blake of Quincy, Courtney Blake of Quincy, Shannon (Craig) Rudd of Knox City, Mo., and Sylvia (Lee) Rimell of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Linda (Harold) Summers of Arkansas and Rusty Benjamin of Hannibal, Mo.; and a brother, James (Kay) Reddick of Pittsfield.

In addition to his wife, Chester was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Marcella Blake; three sisters; and one brother.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Sommerfeldt conducting, and the United States Navy military honors detail and American Legion Post 37 honor guard. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park.

VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 6, at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
