Clark R. "Randy" Dickens, age 73, of Quincy, died in his home on Thursday, August 21, 2025. He was born in Spartanburg, NC on March 12, 1952, a son of Phil and Ellis (Jones) Dickens. He married Christie Pence and together they had their son Tyler.
Randy was a lifelong educator and coach, coaching football most recently at Quincy High School, and previously at Culver Stockton College, Quincy College, Wabash College, and Rose Hulman Technical School. He was an avid golfer and traveled extensively with his son Tyler as he played golf in tournaments across the country. He was passionate about coaching football and working to develop the young players, and he stayed connected to the QHS football program long after his retirement.
In addition to his son Tyler Dickens of Quincy, survivors include his grandchildren, Lydia and Everett Dickens of Quincy; his former wife and friend Christie (Tom) Bliven of Quincy. A brother, William Dickens of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. and sister, Margaret (Gene) Gannon of Altoona, FL. A sister-in-law Irene Pence, Texas; nieces Sarah Pence and Ansley Hack, and nephews, Billy Dickens, Joe Dickens and Jed Dickens.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-in-law, Sterling David Pence and a sister-in-law, Allie Dickens.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Visitation is on Friday between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. I am saddened to learn of Randy´s passing. He was my Kappa Sigma fraternity brother at Indiana University. Randy was a dedicated educator, coach, friend, and mentor to so many young people. So sorry for your loss. Randy was our son´s coach at QU in the late 80´s. We became friends, he was a great guy. He had just attended a football reunion a couple weeks ago in Utica, our son flew in from Phoenix and had a great visit with Randy. He was very respected and will greatly missed.
