Dale Arthur Heinecke, age 86, of Madison, WI, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at Agrace HospiceCare. Born on October 21, 1938, in Quincy, IL, he was the beloved son of Eugene and Catherine (Elligsen) Heinecke.
Dale graduated from Quincy High School in 1957 and proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era. In 1963, he married his childhood sweetheart, Dorothy "Dotty" (Smith), whom he had known since the fourth grade. Their 61-year marriage was a testament to love, commitment, and the deep roots of a life built together in Quincy.
A dedicated worker, Dale spent more than four decades in the manufacturing industry, beginning his career at the Electric Wheel Company and retiring from Titan Wheel. He valued hard work and relationships, forging lasting bonds with colleagues along the way.
Dale was a member of First United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post No. 37. His heart for service shined through his involvement with United Commercial Travelers, where he coordinated events benefiting children with special needs. A man of many interests, he found joy in boating, motorcycling, hunting, fishing, and woodworking.
Even in retirement, Dale sought ways to give back. He volunteered at the Adams County Senior Center as a bus driver and devoted time at the VA Hospital in Madison, assisting across multiple departments over the years.
Above all, Dale found his greatest happiness in the company of family and friends. He was known for his warm smile, quick wit, and boundless love for those around him. Relocating to Madison, WI to be near his family in retirement allowed him to take on the greatest role of his life as "Super Grandpa." Nothing brought him more joy than watching his grandsons play hockey and soccer, often from the highest bleachers in his signature spot for the best view. Proudly nicknamed "Grandpa UBER," he was a constant presence in the carpool line, always ready with a ride and a helping hand.
Dale is survived by his loving wife, Dotty; daughter, Hanna (Ted) Blazel; grandsons, Benjamin and William Blazel of Madison, WI; sister, Kay (Steve) Ginther; sister-in-law, Diana Mixer; and brother-in-law, David (Linda) Smith of Quincy, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Frances (George) Keppner and Helen (Harry) Smith; brother, Richard "Bud" (Frances) Heinecke; brothers-in-law, Donald (Phyllis) Smith and Ken Mixer; and nephew, Martin Heinecke.
Dale's kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love leave an enduring mark on those who knew him. While his passing leaves broken hearts, he continues to comfort us as we recall his trademark phrases, his ever-encouraging thumbs-up, and the cherished memories that remind us of his love.
A graveside service will be held at Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy, IL, at a later date. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com. Gunderson East Funeral & Cremation Care 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, WI (608) 221-5420

My sympathy to Dotty and Dale's family. Dale was
a classmate of my husband, Jerry and a good friend.
We "hung out together", especially at Deter's
Dairy Store during those years and reconnected
on "FaceBook" in these later years.
May he rest in Peace.

Dale lived on 13th and Jefferson in Quincy, across from Emerson grade school. I lived on 13th and Washington. We played a lot of baseball, football, basketball and other things at Emerson. Was a great neighborhood. Then a good number of guys from Emerson ended up working at Electric Wheel/Titan so I would see and talk to Dale for many years until he retired and moved to Wisconson. He was a good person and my thoughts are with his family.
