Dora Mae Schroder

1939 - 2018

LAGRANGE, Mo. -- Dora Mae Schroder, 79, of LaGrange, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018, surrounded by her family in LaGrange.

Dora was born March 25, 1939, in New Canton, Ill., a daughter of Arlie and Frances Cleo Saxbury Allensworth. She married Glenn Dale Schroder on March 26, 1955, in LaGrange. He survives.

Dora was a homemaker who was devoted to her family, and she had a special love for all of her grandchildren. She loved flowers and was an avid gardener. Dora was an amazing cook and hostess who loved to entertain her family and friends. She loved writing poetry and was a published poet. Dora was an accomplished pianist who played by ear from a young age after learning from her dad.

Dora was a lifelong member of the Eagles Lodge in Canton, Mo. She helped organize the first Head Start in LaGrange, and she completed her certified nurses assistant training in 1984.

Survivors include her husband, Glenn Dale Schroder Sr. of LaGrange; three children, Glenn "Dale" Schroder Jr., Vickie Luann Schroder and Jackie Rene (Steven) Eston, all of LaGrange; nine grandchildren, Shawn Lee Schroder, Kristel Marie (Blake) Bratten, Chassidy Mae (Todd Borgstadt) Schroder, Brandon Dion Schroder, Phillip Tremayne (Megan) Bradshaw, Terrell Duray (Robyn) Bradshaw, Natasha Nicole (Tranell) Humphrey, Londale Marshawn Schroder and Pernell Duran (Ida) Schroder; a stepgrandson, Zeavon (Heather) Eston; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sandra Kay (Don) Mason of St. Charles, and Shirley Mueller of Quincy, Ill.; two brothers, Larry (Darcy) Allensworth of Joliet, Ill., and Wayne (Diana) Garner of Ewing, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dora was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter-in-law, Christine Marie Schroder; a great-grandson, Braedyn Bradshaw; three brothers, Phillip, Arlie Jr. and Kenneth Allensworth; and two sisters, Thelma Crouch and Nancy McKinney.

SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with the Revs. Donna Reid and Paul Kenney officiating. Burial will be in Maywood Cemetery, Maywood, Mo.

VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
