Eugene Liniger Obituary

Eugene "Jim" Liniger, 86, of 1422 Monroe, died at 9:30 a.m. Friday (Jan. 21, 2011) in his home.

He was born Nov. 13, 1924, in Parsons, Kan., a son of Della Herrington. On Sept. 1, 1945, he married Marian "Jeanne" Ryan in Quincy. She died Nov. 27, 2008.

Jim graduated from Quincy High School in 1942. After graduation, he served in the United States Marine Corps from September 1942 through November 1945. He was deployed and served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.

Jim attended the University of Illinois from 1951 to 1954. He had been employed in the electrical engineering departments of both Gardner Denver and Gates Radio. After his retirement in 1985, Jim spent time pursuing his hobbies, fishing and gardening. Jim was especially fond of his vegetable garden.

Survivors include his son, Cary Liniger of Lenexa, Kan.; he was a beloved uncle to Stephen Hibbard and his wife, Judy, of St. Louis, Amy Pique and her husband, Jim, of Venice, Fla., Mary Ryan of Hawaii, and Patrick Ryan of Albuquerque, N.M. He was also a very special friend to Juanita Siltman of Quincy.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his mother.

SERVICES: 2 p.m. Tuesday in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Disseler conducting. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.

VISITATION: From noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

MEMORIALS: American Heart Association.

ARRANGEMENTS: Hansen-Spear Funeral Directors.
