Genevieve Irvine Obituary

Genevieve C. Irvine, 85, of 2812 Lind, was called home to be with the Lord at 1:35 a.m. Saturday (June 13, 2009) as she was surrounded by family in her home. She was born on Sept. 2, 1923, in Quincy, a daughter of Paul and Rose Clement Lehner. She married William Irvine on Aug. 23, 1947, in Quincy. He died on Jan. 29, 1993. Genevieve was a devout Catholic. She attended St. Rose School and Quincy High School. She attended St. Rose Church. She later became a member of St. Francis Church. Genevieve was loved dearly by her children, grandchildren and family. She cherished holiday celebrations and family meals. She was an excellent cook and gardener and loved giving to others. Her happiest times were when family came together in her home. She was described as an exceptionally kind and loving person by all those who knew her. Genevieve's other passion besides her family was Cardinal baseball. One of her most exciting moments was when Lou Brock visited her in her home. She rarely missed listening to Mike Shannon and Jack Buck call the games on the radio. Genevieve is survived by her five children who all live in Quincy, Rick Irvine, Carol Mickle and her husband, Terry, Rosemary Platt and her husband, Rollie, Barbara Runyon and her husband, Jerry, and Michael Irvine and his wife, Lisa; eight grandchildren, Lisa Calhoun and her husband, Rod, of Greenwood, Ark., Jennifer Robbins and her husband, Clifton, of Kansas City, Allison Arseneau and her husband, Greg, of Madison, Wis., Andrea Platt of Chicago, Sara Platt of Quincy, Michael Irvine II of Nashville, Tenn., Mandy Irvine of Quincy, and Amanda Clevenger and her husband, Nick, of Bluffs; seven great-grandchildren, Ava Robbins of Kansas City, Brett and Cara Calhoun, both of Greenwood, Brian Calhoun of Columbus, Ohio, Austin, Keyan, and Carson Clevenger, all of Bluffs; two brothers, James Lehner of Hanna City, and Lawrence Lehner of Quincy and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband William, Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; three sisters, and a grandson, Matthew Tyler Irvine. SERVICES: 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home and 10 a.m. in St. Francis Catholic Church with the Rev. Tom Shaughnessey officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. VISITATION: 4-7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. MEMORIALS: Because of Genevieve's respect for education and love of children, the family would greatly appreciate memorials be made to the Quincy Foundation for Quality Education and the St. Francis School Fund. ARRANGEMENTS: Duker and Haugh Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed online at www.whig.com.
