George E. Belker

1931 - 2021

George Edward Belker, age 89, of Quincy, died on Saturday, October 2, 2021 in his home. He was born on December 12, 1931, in Quincy, the son of Alois G. and Gertrude M. (Koetters) Belker. George married Betty Ann Ketzler who was the love of his life on February 11, 1961 in St. Francis Catholic Church, officiated by his uncle, Rev. Landelin Belker, O.F.M. Betty preceded him in death on April 11, 2014.

George graduated from St. Francis School, Notre Dame High School in 1950 and Quincy College in 1954. He then served his country in the US Army from October 12, 1954 through July 31, 1956.

He was employed in sales and marketing by Gardner Denver Machinery, Inc. from October 1, 1956 through March 31, 1997 when he retired. George was a talented handyman, and was often called upon for his plumbing, electrical and problem-solving skills. He was always ready to help others. He was proud of maintaining his yard, and for years had a friendly rivalry with neighbors who liked doing the same.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish, where he was a helpful and active participant in church activities for many years. George's other memberships include the Knights of Columbus, the Elks Club, and the Western Catholic Union.

Survivors include his son, Tom Belker and his wife Karen of Moweaqua, IL; Sisters, Mary "Liz" Czervinske of San Antonio, TX and Barbara McCaughey of Davenport, IA. Nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and three sisters: Helen Hummelsheim, Alice Demers, and Carlene Scholl.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 11, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church by Rev. Tom Meyer. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be at Duker and Haugh Funeral Home on Monday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Memorials are suggested to Blessed Sacrament Parish.
