Dr. Gilbert F. Sofio

DR. GILBERT F. SOFIO Dr. Sofio passed away on November 27, 2012 at the age of 89. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois School of Medicine and received further training at Cook County General Hospital in Chicago, IL, University of Maryland School of Medicine, Yale University School of Medicine, Washington, D.C. General Hospital, and UCLA School of Medicine. He was a Diplomate of the American Academy of Medicine, specializing in Internal Medicine and Radiology. Dr. Sofio was in private practice in Riverside, CA from 1956 until 1967 when he and his family moved to Honolulu, HI. There, we was associated with Kaiser Permanente, Straube Clinic, Fronk Clinic, and the University of Hawaii Student Health Clinic. Dr. Sofio is survived by his wife, Constance, and daughter Dr. Ellen Sofio of Honolulu; sons David (Jill) of Honolulu and Robert of Sacramento; sister Fredrica "Rick" Kanter of Riverside; and brother John of Andover, MA. He is also survived by three grandsons. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth and brother-in-law Dr. Lester Kanter. Per his request there was no funeral service. A private memorial/burial was held in Honolulu on September 28.
