Harold Bertrand Obituary

QUINCY -- Harold J. Bertrand, 87, of 4728 Woodland Trail, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, at Blessing Hospital.

He was born June 18, 1929, in Irwin, a son of Henry and Olive M. Feller Bertrand. He graduated from St. Patrick High School in Kankakee. He married Marilyn Jean Mathy on Feb. 27, 1954, in St. Peter's Church in Clifton. She preceded him in death March 11, 2016.

Mr. Bertrand served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He then worked for the Ford Motor Co. in the Tractor Division as a zone sales manager. That was the only job he ever had, working for Ford for more than 42 years. He retired April 1, 1991.

Mr. Bertrand was a member of the Church of St. Peter in Quincy. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, coached in the Quinsippi Soccer League, volunteered at Blessing Hospital and was a former member of the St. Francis Parish Board and the CYO Board. Mr. Bertrand greatly enjoyed following his children's, grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's sports and other activities. He also followed QND and QU sports.

Harold is survived by his children, Dan (Kelly) Bertrand of Marengo, Barb (Ferd) Niemann of Quincy, Brian Bertrand of Springfield, Jeff (Lynne) Bertrand of Bloomington and Tom (Michelle) Bertrand of Rochester; 17 grandchildren, Brock, Bailey, Brooke and Beau Bertrand, Kailee (Frank) Flesch, Ferd (Angela) Niemann, Blake, Brett and Alexis (fiancé David Kirner) Niemann, Morgan, Shannon, Parker, Mitchell and Drake Bertrand, Capt. Nathan Bertrand, and Erica and Connor Bertrand; seven great-grandchildren, Addie, Tripp, Stone, Finley and Cheney Flesch, and Anthony and Margaret Niemann; one sister, Marge (Pat) O'Connor; sister-in-law, Dorothy Riebe; and brothers-in-law, Edward Mathy and Bill Green. Many nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

In addition to his wife, Harold was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Leonard, Roman, Raynold and Henry Bertrand; three sisters, Viola Provost, Dorothy Granger and Beryl Schmidt; and two daughters, Deborah Sue and Mary Elizabeth in infancy.

SERVICES: 12:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, at Duker and Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian burial at 1 p.m. at the Church of St. Peter by Monsignor Leo Enlow. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery.

VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, at the funeral home.

MEMORIALS: Quincy Notre Dame Foundation for the Harold and Marilyn Bertrand Scholarship or Blessing Foundation for Hospice.

I am so sorry that I was unable to attend either the visitation or Harold's funeral. He was a good man who loved his family.

I worked with him in a couple of voluntary capasaties, children soccer and so forth and he was a fine person of good charcter
