Helen Marie Slater, age 93, of Quincy, died on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at 6:50 am in Blessing Hospital.
Helen was born May 2, 1928 in Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of Lawrence and Marie Sefton. She married Bill Slater on August 28, 1948, and they celebrated 73 years of marriage together. He survives.
Helen was a graduate of Quincy High School. She was employed at JC Penney for 17 years.
Helen was an exceptional homemaker and an accomplished cook. She loved feeding her family and friends. Helen and Bill enjoyed traveling together, and especially visiting their place in Bennett Springs, Missouri for trout fishing.
Survivors in addition to her husband, Bill, include, two sons, Larry Slater and Bill (Cathy) Slater, both of Quincy; two grandchildren, Paul Slater and Kelly (Aaron) Rosendahl; two great-grandchildren, Ella and Bennett Slater; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Donna Walbring.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter-in-law, Debbie Slater, a grandson, Todd Slater, and her sister, Betty Schutte.
Visitation: 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
Graveside Services: 12:15 pm on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Greenmount Cemetery.
