Henry Maize Obituary

PALMYRA, Mo. -- Henry George "Hank" Maize Jr., 67, of Malta, Ill., formerly of Palmyra, died Monday (Dec. 13, 2010), at his home, surrounded by family.

He was born Sept. 28, 1943, to Henry George Maize Sr. and Margaret Burns Maize. He graduated from Palmyra (Mo.) High School in 1961. He was a student council representative. He attended Kirksville State Teachers College and the Illinois Academy of Arts and Design, majoring in art.

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1963, served a tour in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged in 1966. He had a successful career in commercial art in and around the Chicago area and had recently retired.

He married Marsha Henry in 1967 and Pam Sloan in 1979. He married Debra Ann Thorington Rice on Sept. 20, 2010.

He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping. He loved music, reading and sports, but most of all, he loved spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his spouse, Debra Ann Maize; children, Jennifer Michelle Maize of Lombard, Ill., Mathieu David Maize of Aurora, Ill., and Kendall Elizabeth Maize of Adelaide, Australia; grandchildren, Sean Michael Christopher of Lombard, Ill., Shannon Ryan Christopher of Lombard, Ill., and Emilia Cardenas of Philadelphia, Pa.; stepgrandchildren, Levi Kevin Miles, Evie Ann Miles, Audrey Lou Miles and Travin Marie Rice, all of Palmyra, Isabella Avery Rice of Taylor, and Rhett Daniel Wise of Perry, Mo.; a brother, Gary L. Maize of Palmyra; a niece, Lisa Ann (Eddie) Whipple, and children, Kelsey and Blake, of Centralia; an uncle, Homer Burns of Glendale, Ariz.; and cousins, John R. (Karen) Burns and children, Bridget, Danielle, Olivia, Johanna and Whitney, of Kirksville, Martin R. (Sue) Burns, and child, Tyler Summers, of Greentop, Kevin (Lori) Burns, and children, Cameron, Cassidy, Kinley and Kaylee, of Kirksville, Connie L. (Denny) Swisher, and children, Matt and Brandon, of Kirksville, Cathy Conklin, and children, Cari and Carli, of O'Fallon, Ill., Todd (Jane) Wheeler of Kirksville, Larry (Debbie) Burns of Norman, Okla., and David Wheeler of St. Louis.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Alicia Kay Maize; his parents; an uncle, Martin W. Burns; and an aunt, Helen F. Wheeler.

SERVICES: 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19 memorial service will be at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 830 N. Annie Glidden Road, DeKalb, Ill. His body has been donated for medical research and his remains will be cremated. His ashes will remain with his wife Debra until her death. Both will be buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra, Mo.
