James was born on April 11, 1956, to Henry and Virginia (Gillum) Rees in Quincy, IL, James lived a life defined by devotion to family, hard work, and a deep love for the outdoors.

James built his career through dedication and versatility. He worked in family businesses and as a salesman throughout the years, including roles with Yellow Pages, Zep, insurance services, as a Finance Manager, and with General Mills. No matter the position, he brought determination, strong relationships, and a tireless work ethic to everything he did.

Above all else, James cherished his family. He is survived by his children, Jamie Rees, Ryan (Amber) Rees, and Trish Rees; his treasured grandchildren, Lily York, Elias Rees, and Finley Rees and his wife, Marcia Rees. He is also survived by his sister, Brenda (Frank) Lane. James was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren and found his greatest joy in time spent with them.

An avid outdoorsman, James had a lifelong passion for hunting-duck, pheasant, quail, coon, wild hog, and mushroom hunting were among his favorites. He was actively involved in local chapters supporting conservation and firearm education and could often be found attending gun shows or adding to his collection. His hobbies reflected his adventurous spirit: golfing, paintball, boating on local lakes and rivers, motocross, and playing slow-pitch softball. He was also a devoted sports fan who rarely missed cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals and Mizzou athletics.

James will be remembered for his strong presence, his love of the outdoors, his loyalty to friends, and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy lives on in the stories shared, the traditions carried forward, and the memories held close by all who knew him.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered
