John BARKER Sept. 18, 1930 -- July 4, 2010 MOUNT STERLING, Ill. -- John Richard Barker, 79, of Mount Sterling, died at 7:55 a.m. Sunday (July 4, 2010) at the Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Mount Sterling. He was born Sept. 18, 1930, in Hersman, the son of George and Nellie Harper Barker. John was a newspaper carrier for several area newspapers and had also worked for the city of Mount Sterling for several years. He attended Mount Sterling schools. Mr. Barker was a member of the Mount Sterling Presbyterian Church of Christ. John was a familiar figure, delivering advertising circulars in Rushville, Beardstown and Mount Sterling for several years and served as movie projectionist in Mount Sterling and Rushville. Survivors include two brothers, Glenn Barker and George "Ted" Barker, both of Springfield. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kenneth Barker. SERVICES: 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mount Sterling, with Rev. Richard Young officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Sterling City Cemetery. VISITATION: One hour prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home. MEMORIALS: Mount Sterling Presbyterian Church of Christ.
