John Barnett Obituary

HANNIBAL, Mo. -- John B. Barnett III, 72, of Hannibal, died Wednesday (Dec. 26, 2012) in Hannibal Regional Hospital.

John was born Oct. 17, 1940, in Hannibal, to John B. and Lora Katherine Brown Barnett Jr. John was married to Carolyn Sue Hetheriton on June 8, 1985, in Calvary Baptist Church, Hannibal. She survives of the home.

John was a 1959 graduate of Palmyra High School. Following graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served his country during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Barnett worked for Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. in Quincy, Ill. Also, he worked on the family farm prior to his decline in health.

He was a member of Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post 55 in Hannibal. John was a devout member of Calvary Baptist Church in Hannibal.

Survivors include his children, Missa Jo (Kevin) Gerveler of Ewing, John B. (Kim) Barnett IV of Palmyra and Dawn Renee (Kane) McGlothlin of Palmyra; a sister-in-law, Judy Barnett of Palmyra; grandchildren, Ashley (Michael) Lay of Lenexa, Kan., Kelsey and Abbey Gerveler of Ewing, Evan and Blake Barnett of Palmyra, and Kenady and MaKayla McGlothlin of Palmyra; great-granddaughter, Lila Lay of Lenexa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wayne Barnett.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Monday in the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel, Palmyra, with the Rev. Jeff Anderson conducting. Burial with military honors will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Palmyra.

Casket bearers will be John B. Barnett IV, Travis Barnett, Troy Barnett, Kane McGlothlin, Kevin Gerveler and Michael Lay. Honorary bearers will be Al Haskins, Dick Hamm and Otis Woodson .

VISITATION: 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

MEMORIALS: Calvary Baptist Church Music Department.

ARRANGEMENTS: Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel, Palmyra.
