John Theodore Mester, age 75, of Quincy, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, May 20, 2023.
John was born June 13, 1947, in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Erving and Mary Louise Ransburg Mester. He married Rebecca Kimbrell on May 9, 1969, in Quincy. She survives.
John was a 1965 graduate of Quincy High School. He went on to attend Quincy College and later received an associate degree in accounting from Robert Morris College. He later joined IBEW Local 34 as an apprentice electrician, becoming Journeyman in 1974. He retired in 2009. John was a member of Herman Lodge # 39 A.F. & A.M., and Quincy Shrine Club. He was also a member of Ducks Unlimited and the NRA. He was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for duck hunting and fishing. He loved boating and camping on the Mississippi River with family and friends. As a young man he was a proud Eagle Scout. In his spare time John also enjoyed woodworking and welding. John will most of all be remembered as a dedicated family man; he will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Rebecca, include: four children, Melissa Marie Mester of Canton, MO, Mary Ann Mester of Quincy, John Erving (Kenya) Mester of Kansas City, MO, and Jordan Theodore (Kara) Mester of Quincy; six grandchildren, Bradon Bartlow of Fenton, MO, Sadie Elleman of Quincy, Elissa Christensen of Kansas City, MO, Corbin (Serena) Christensen of Kansas City, MO, Will Mester of Kansas City, MO, and Harper Mester of Quincy; a brother Bill (JoAnn) Mester of Quincy; a sister Barb Turi of Quincy; and many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, and a son in law Ryan Ellerman.
Visitation: 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Wednesday May 24, 2023, at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
Services: 10:00 am Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Rev Steve Disseler officiating. Burial in Greenmount Cemetery to follow.
