Larry "Joe" Owsley, 67, of Quincy, passed away Monday, September 15, 2025, peacefully in his home in Quincy, IL.
Larry was born October 25, 1957, in Quincy, IL to Lawrence "Pee Wee" and Vera "Lucy" (Maggart) Owsley.
Larry dedicated his life to the craft of roofing, working for various companies throughout his career, including Reeves, Tournear, Milos Roofing, and Owsley Roofings.
Beyond his professional life, Larry was a man of many interests and talents. He had a passion for woodworking. A true handyman and a jack of all trades, Larry could fix almost anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors.
An avid fan of motorsports, Larry loved to spend his weekends at Quincy Raceways, where the roar of engines and the thrill of the race brought him immense joy. He was also a dedicated NASCAR fan, following every race with enthusiasm. In his youth, Larry enjoyed playing baseball for Franklin Square and the Black Knights, showcasing his athletic abilities and team spirit.
Larry's love for Westerns was well-known, and rooting for his beloved Dallas Cowboys. His presence at local watering holes like Leroy's Hideouts, Just One More, and Tom and Jerry's was a constant, where he would captivate friends and family with his original raps, his anthem "The Shake," and his participation in shuffleboard and pool league games.
Above all, Larry was the life of the party. He was always found with a Budweiser and Fireball. His infectious smile and happy demeanor made him a beloved figure in the community. He had a heart full of love for everyone, and that love was returned tenfold. Family and tradition were the cornerstones of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with his loved ones.
Larry's legacy lives on through his loving family. He is survived by his four children, Elanda Neese, David Dennison, Candy Jo Hoener (Matt), and Adam Metz; several grandchildren, Jesse, Shady, Stormie, Terriann, Jordan, Hayden, Laela, Aliycia, Bentley, Logan, Ava, and Caden; several great-grandkids; his siblings, Donald Dean Shaffer, Marty Owsley, David Owsley, Donald Owsley (Ginny), Tony Owsley, Jim Owsley (Marcia), Suzie Burgtorf (Wesley), and Donna Taylor; and a host of cherished nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence "Pee Wee" Owsley and Vera "Lucy" Owsley; siblings Ronald E. Owsley, Gary Lee Shaffer, Betty Ann Crabbe, and Agnes Louise Heckrodt; his daughters Amanda and Laci Jo; and one granddaughter.
Friends and Family are invited to Larry's Life Celebration at a visitation that will be Friday, September 19, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy, IL.
A Funeral Ceremony will be at 10:00 am Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy. Rocky Murry will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy, IL.
Pallbearers will be Wesley Burgtorf, Warren Burgtorf, John Simpson, Kerry Talburt, Tommy Fisk, and Richard Herron.
Memorial contributions may be made to Victor Owsley to help the family with final expenses.
