Lawrence A. "Larry" Wavering Jr.

Lawrence "Larry" A. Wavering Jr., 86, of 1700 N. 36th, Quincy, died at 5 a.m. Wednesday (Nov. 14, 2012) in his home.

Larry was born April 15, 1926, in Quincy, a son of Lawrence A. and Agnes Freiburg Wavering. He married Anita Will on Nov. 11, 1950, in Quincy's St. Francis Catholic Church. She died in 1995. Larry married Maxine Kroeger Devlin on April 29, 2000, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Palmyra, Mo. She survives.

Larry was a general foreman at Gardner Denver's Walton Plant, retiring after 39 years with the company.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was a lifelong member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Larry enjoyed working on mechanical problems, and going on family camping and fishing outings.

In addition to his wife, Maxine, survivors include his children, Steve Wavering and his wife, Lynn, of Quincy, Jeff Wavering and his wife, Julie, of Rockford, Linda Willing and her husband, Larry, and Susan Bergman and her husband, Dave, all of Quincy; grandchildren, Jay (Christy) Wavering, Curt (Julie) Wavering, Emily (Rob) Kistner, Pamela (John) Kowalski, Laura Wavering, Nancy (Dan) Ingve, April (Trevor) Friye, Amanda (John) Howard and Alexis Bergman; great-grandchildren, Clara and Lola Wavering, Eloise Kistner, Ella and Lily Ingve and Kale Friye; six stepchildren and their spouses; 16 stepgrandchildren and 18 stepgreat-grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Anita; siblings, Mabel, John, Alvin and Wilfred Wavering and Leota "Sis" Friye.

SERVICES: 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Francis Catholic Church, by the Rev. Donald Blaeser.

VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

MEMORIALS: St. Francis Church Parish Center or to Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
