Leta Glascock Obituary

Leta Mae Ruhl Glascock passed away at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra (after a very brief stay) on Sunday, November 10th, 2024.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, November 15, 2024, at Hydesburg United Methodist Church in Hannibal, MO, Rev. Tom Lemons will officiate. Burial will follow at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal, MO.

Friends and Family are invited to Leta's Life Celebration at a visitation that will be from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, Friday, at the church.

The family is being served by James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, MO.

She was born on February 18th, 1927, to Joseph Stanley & Estella Mae Campbell Ruhl on their farm in Ralls County. The doctor did not make it on time and refused to sign the birth certificate, so she had none until her mother went with her when she was in her 40's to a notary public to certify her date of birth. Leta or "Granny" as everyone affectionately called her was a 1944 graduate of Rensselaer High School. She was second in her class of 5 so this shy farm girl had to give a graduation speech.

Leta married Malcolm Glascock March 14th, 1947, and they celebrated 57 happy years together on their farm in Ralls County. Malcolm preceded her in death in 2004.

Leta was a hard-working farm woman, always raising a large garden in addition to milking cows while Malcolm worked in town. She raised 100 chickens for the freezer every year and sold eggs to customers in town. Leta worked for her son, Tim, at River City Greenhouse for a great number of years as she loved flowers and visiting with his customers. She earned another nickname "Leta Water" after working there since she spent so much time watering the plants. The family said that it is her new job in heaven, taking care of the flowers. She did also work for a brief period of time at Western Printing back in the 70's.

Church was very important to Leta, and she was a faithful member of Hydesburg United Methodist Church since childhood. She was a long time Sunday School teacher touching and influencing many young lives. "Granny" instilled the importance of church attendance to her children, "dragging" them in there each Sunday. Leta was a wonderful inspiration to all who knew and loved her, always thoughtful and kind to everyone. If we could all live the kind of life Leta did, the world would be a happy and better place. She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

Leta is survived by four of her five children: Michael Glascock (Candy Lindsay) of Columbia, Chrstine Smith (Joseph) of Hannibal, Denis Glascock (Julie) of Houston, Texas, and Kevin Glascock (Diane) of Ballwin, MO. Her grandchildren include Derek Smith (Courtney Harrison), Trevor Glasscock, Jason Glascock, Denna Glascock and great grandchildren: Cheyenne & Aubreyella Smith. Her other son, Timothy Glascock, passed away earlier this year.

A special thank you to Courtney Harrison for helping her through the last couple of difficult months of her life. A formerly active woman of 97 plus years found it hard to have to ask for help.,

Pallbearers will be her children/grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Hydesburg United Methodist Church or Shiloh Christian Children's Ranch.
