Marian Power Obituary

QUINCY -- Marian D. Power went to be with the Lord on July 26, 2015, after a short battle with cancer. Marian, 80, of North Fort Myers, Fla., and formerly of Decatur and Quincy, died in Carle Hospital in Urbana.

Marian was born Jan. 29. 1935, in Beltrami County, near Grygla, Minn., a daughter of Ordean Anderson and Lillian Foss Anderson, both of Norwegian descent.

She was raised on a farm, attended Big Grass Grade School, graduated from Goodridge, Minn., high school, and earned a business degree from the Dakota Business School in Fargo, N.D.

She worked in the advertising department of the Moorhead (Minn.) Daily News newspaper.

She married William Power on Nov. 26, 1954, in Fargo. They moved numerous times throughout the Midwest when Bill was transferred with W.T. Grant Co., and lived in Quincy for 30 years.

Marian worked in the nursing department of Blessing Hospital for 23 years and developed many lifelong friendships there.

Marian and Bill sold their home in Quincy in 2002, bought an RV and took off traveling the U.S. and the world, including a 2000 trip to commemorate the end of the Korean War. Mickey, Bill's nickname for her, was an avid bocce ball player, swimmer, flier of glider planes, dog lover, a devoted Scrabble player and enjoyed cooking.

Marian was a dear friend to many. She was always there to help anyone in need. She loved the Lord and served many years at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Quincy.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Patti (Doug) Price of Milmine, Susie (John) DeGryse of Savannah, Ga., Michael Power of Quincy, Timothy (Janine) Power of San Diego, Kathy (Wade) Smith of Savannah, Ga., Colleen (Rick) Lewis of Quincy, and Bridget (Eugene) Miller of Mahomet; 22 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her spouse; and a sister, Angela Beaumont.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, at the Lighthouse Baptist Church, 1419 Kochs Lane, Quincy. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veterans Home.

MEMORIALS: Lighthouse Baptist Church.

What a great picture of Marian! She looks like she could just be sitting across from me having a good laugh. I first met Marian many years ago through the Bible study at the Kaufmann House in Quincy, but we have kept in touch and my husband and I even did a few things with her and Bill in FL. For about the last year, however, we had become even closer and had been talking on the phone weekly (most weeks, anyhow) and praying for our families verbally over the phone. So, even though I have met a few of Marian's dear family, I feel like I know you all. I can tell you she loved all of you dearly and prayed for you often. She truly was one of those people who could enter a room and lift the spirits of everyone there. I'm blessed to have known her and will certainly miss her and our phone calls! Heaven's gain!

Our prayers are with the Power family. Ordean and Lillian were our parents best friends and we waited every summer for Marian and her family to visit. It was such a fun time for us when we were were all together. We all loved Marian. May God bless all of you. Much Love, The Hagen Family..

Marian was known for her fun loving, playing scrabble....don't think I ever won a game...she enjoyed puzzles, McD's Coffee, cards, British series Frost, and other crime shows, and PEOPLE. Her Christmas Eve Pot Luck were the Blast. She was always the first one to laugh at herself. She could get any man to fix what was broken lol. We laughed at the way she'd fling her leg up when playing bocce ball, or yell "is it a BOCCE" whatever she did she had us laughing. Marian, I and many many others will miss you. Heaven got one of our good ones.
