Michael Hamann Obituary

Michael "Mike" Hamann, 69, of 3821 Greenfield Road, died Tuesday (Nov. 4, 2014) in Iowa City VA Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 14, 1945, in Quincy, a son of Carl F. and Mary (Hickey) Hamann. He married Carolyn Kaufmann on June 17, 1967. She survives.

Mike was a 1963 graduate of Christian Brothers High School.

Mr. Hamann worked for Monogram Industries. Later, he worked for Kuester Tool and Die and then as a purchasing agent for Gardner Denver until his retirement. He was a Navy veteran. Mike was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and a former long-time member of St. Rose Catholic Church.

Mike was an avid St. Louis sports fan, always cheering on the Cardinals, Blues and Rams. He was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus and Elks Lodge. Mike had recently become a volunteer driver for the Veterans Administration, taking local veterans to the VA hospital in Iowa City for doctor appointments.

Mike loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids, attending as many of their events as possible.

Mike was thoroughly enjoying his retirement. He and Carolyn, along with various friends, would spend weeks at a time traveling the country visiting new and favorite places.

Mike always had a smile on his face and never knew a stranger. He was always laughing and teased those he loved. He has touched so many lives and will be forever missed.

In addition to his wife Carolyn, he is also survived by two children, Jill Hart and her husband, Kevin, of Quincy and Jennifer Leonard of Quincy; six grandchildren, Conner, Katy and Jocelyn Hart, Jessica and Emily Leonard, and Aiden Brunier; siblings Kay Penrose, Ronald Hamann and his wife, Rose, Rick Hamann and his wife, Maggie, all of Quincy, and Kathy Calhoun of Canton. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents.

SERVICES: 9:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment with military rites will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Sorry to hear this. So shocking as I learned about it when Father Don spoke about it at church at IVH. As a scout parent we attend mass there often. Also Mary was a dear woman that attended some of my water exercise classes at IVH. Both will be missed. Sympathy to whole family.

I worked with Mike at Monogram and thought he was one of the best. So sorry for your loss. My sympathy to you.

Jill, Jennifer, Carolyn - I am sorry I can't be there today. God Bless you. I'm thinking and praying for you today and hoping so many happy memories overwhelm some the tears you have today.
