Michael Smith Obituary

Michael Lee Smith, 63, of 1314 S. 28th, Quincy, died at 2:12 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 4, 2014) in Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Mo.

Michael was born Dec. 4, 1950, in Quincy, a son of Ralph and Mildred Sims Smith.

He married Janis Rinne on Sept. 12, 1981, in Luther Memorial Church, Quincy. She survives.

Michael was a 1969 graduate of Quincy High School and served in the U.S. Army for six years during the Vietnam era. He worked at the Quincy Post Office and at Art Craft. Then for 25 years he was the senior buyer for several local electronic firms. He and his wife are owners of Consignors Depot on Maine Street.

He was a longtime member of Luther Memorial Church, where he was baptized and confirmed. He was a current member and elder at Faith Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of Quincy Regional Crime Stoppers. Mike was an avid Cardinals fan.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Janis include his five children, Danielle Hardin of Fort Bragg, N.C., Chelsea, Garrett, Molly, and Kadyn

Smith, all of Quincy; two grandchildren, Alisana and D.J. Hardin; five siblings, Janet Wombles, Ralph Smith Jr., Floyd, Charles, and Gail

Lynn Smith; a cousin, Roynola (Donald) Blair of Quincy, with whom he was raised; and her sons, Mark and Alan Blair.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Bernice Smith; and his aunt and uncle who raised him, Frank and Gladys Becker.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, in Faith Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Rod Bakker and the Rev. Kevin McGinnis conducting. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.

MEMORIALS: Wounded Warrior Project or the Quincy Humane Society.
