Patsy Cary Obituary

Patsy Ruth Cary, 83, of Quincy, died at 4:45 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 27, 2008) in Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, Mo. Patsy was born in Hannibal on Aug. 12, 1925, to James W. Dempsey and Lillian E. McMahill Dempsey. She graduated from Hannibal High School with the class of 1943, and was united in marriage to William M. Cary on April 21, 1946, in the Second Baptist Church in St. Louis. He died Jan. 2, 1981. Patsy and her husband raised black angus cattle and her husband was a well-known auctioneer. She was an avid antique collector and member of the National Toothpick Holder Collectors' Society. She was also a member of First Christian Church of Elsberry, Mo. She is survived by one sister-in-law, Eloisa Dempsey of San Antonio, Texas; a niece, Sue (David) Davis of Birmingham, Ala.; two nephews, Ronald Costa of Seekonk, Mass., and Bruce Acosta of Denver, Colo.; a great-niece, Laurie (Brian) O'Fallon of Marietta, Ga.; a great-nephew, James (Lisa) Davis of Beverly Hills, Calif.; and a great-great-nephew, Michael O'Fallon of Marietta. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Jack Dempsey; and her sisters, Rosa Acosta, Clarita Dempsey and, in infancy, Ruby Mae Dempsey. SERVICES: 11 a.m. Monday in Grand View Funeral Home, Hannibal. Pastor Tom Schofield will conduct. Burial will be in Grand View Burial Park, Hannibal. VISITATION: 10 to 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home. MEMORIALS: First Christian Church of Elsberry, James E. Cary Cancer Center, Hannibal, or Hannibal Regional Hospital. ARRANGEMENTS: Grand View Funeral Home, Hannibal. Condolences may be expressed online at www.whig.com.
