Curtis T. Cary, 88, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.
Curtis was born on August 16, 1937, in
Elm City, North Carolina to Dorothy Jordan and Raymond Gold Cary. He was raised with a strong Southern sense of humility, and grace that stayed with him throughout his life.
Curtis was drafted to the Pittsburg Pirates professional baseball team but chose instead to proudly serve a full term in the U. S. Navy. Following his military service, he continued an expensive career with Unilever Brothers as a Union Representative, Machine Operator, and Safety Management Office, helping to pave the way for higher safety standard policies implemented throughout the company. This chapter of his life is what created his steady mindset and unwavering willingness to help others. After retiring, Curtis and his wife Joyce resided in the town of
Berlin, Maryland, creating memories with their family and friends that will be cherished forever.
Curtis was the beloved husband of Joyce; a loving father and father-in-law to Christina Cary Ford and her late husband Raymond, Joseph Cary and his wife Faye, and his late son Daniel Cary and wife Karen, with whom he is now reunited. He was a proud grandfather to Katie (Justden), Andrea, Maria, Julia, Ryan, and Matthew, and a proud great-grandfather to Dylan, Riley, and Luca. He was also a cherished uncle to Steve, Tim, Eric, Josh, and Shelly.
He was preceded in death by his sister Peggy, Jack, Sandra, and his parents, Dorothy Jordan and Raymond Gold Cary.
A military honors service will be held in his memory on January 30, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery located in Millsboro, Delaware - a final tribute to a life of service and devotion.
The family would like to thank the caregivers and friends who offered comfort and support during his final days.
Curtis will be remembered for his quiet strength, gentle humor, and unwavering love for his family.
