Paul Coyle Obituary

Paul LeRoy Coyle, 70, of Quincy, IL, passed away at 11:33 am Monday, January 3, 2022, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

The family will host a Celebration of Life on Saturday, January 8, 2022, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at Machinists Hall, 2929 North 5th St., Quincy, IL. A meal will follow.

Arrangements for cremation are under the direction of the O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy.

Paul was born April 2, 1951, in Quincy, IL to LeRoy P. and Hattie (Slater) Coyle.

He was married to Sandy L. Herren Hinch on April 11, 1981, at United Methodist Church in Quincy, IL. To Paul, Sandy was not only his wife and caretaker, but also his very best friend. They leaned on each other during the good times and bad for over 40 years. Sandy survives.

In addition to his wife, other survivors include his three children, Denise Hinch of Canton, MO, Stephanie Beaston (Christopher) of Tioga, IL, and Shaun Coyle (Cristi) of Fairfield, IA; 17 grandchildren, Jay Albert (Lexi), Danielle Neuman (Jon Michael), Nicolas Dopheide, Keylan Arnel-Shaver, Destiny Beaston, Aaron Beaston, Kristin Branham (Henry), Devin Beaston (Lynsey), Denver Beaston, Brent Dillard (Brittany), Maddelyn Coyle, Philip Coyle, Jarod Coyle (Katelyn), Shea Coyle, Noah Coyle, Shelby Coyle, and Brooke Coyle; and seven great-grandchildren, Addi, Aiden, Rowan, Maddox, Owen, Maverick, and Avery.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Scott Philip Coyle.

Paul was a Union Committeeman at Quincy Compressor where he worked for 34 years.

If you asked 100 different people who Paul Coyle was, they would all tell you the same story: he was a brutally honest man who had an ornery side. He loved to laugh and always had a smile for those he met.

Paul was an avid sports fan. In his younger days, he played league slow-pitch softball. Paul was proud to hold the coveted title as his family's ping pong champ, but also enjoyed his recent hours-long phone conversations about his beloved New York Yankees (especially his hero, Mickey Mantle) and Washington Redskins, as well as making picks for his fantasy football league. Paul was an excellent bowler, with an average of over 200 per game. Bowling alleys held a special place in his heart because that's where he met his beloved wife, Sandy.

Paul raised Scott and Shaun as a single dad for several years until he met Sandy. He quickly accepted Denise and Stephanie as his own, and never treated them as stepchildren but rather as his own children. He spent countless hours on the phone with Scott and Shaun talking about life, football, and baseball. Paul's competitive side came out when it came time to argue or debate, but he truly loved talking with anyone. This is because he genuinely cared about the people in his life, including his coworkers. In his spare time, Paul enjoyed reading the newspaper (or anything he could get his hands on, really), doing crossword puzzles, or enjoying one of his favorite meals: a ham pizza with extra cheese and sauce from Gem City, with a Diet Coke to drink. Paul will be sorely missed by all who had the chance to know him and his unquestionably caring yet ornery personality.

Paul loved the Lord and never doubted God's love for him.
