Paul William "Bill" Venvertloh, age 91, of Quincy, died on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, in Blessing Hospital, Quincy. He was born on May 27, 1934, in Quincy, IL, the son of George and Bernadine (Holtschlag) Venvertloh. Bill married Shirley Ann Wort on September 28, 1963, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling, IL. She survives.
Bill attended school through the 9th grade and then went to work helping his father and uncle tend to the family farm. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959 during the Korean War. After he was discharged from the Army, he delivered fuel for Standard Oil Co., Amoco, and lastly at Neil Oil Co. until his retirement in 2003.
Bill was of the Catholic faith and a dedicated member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. He was a member of the Holy Name Society.
He enjoyed being outdoors gardening and doing yard work, taking him back to his roots on the farm. Bill spent many hours sitting on their porch swing on a summer evening, watching all the activities. He cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandson Tyler. Bill liked playing cards and taking bus trips with friends and family. He watched Fox News daily, and regularly did word search puzzles. He also was a fan of Cubs Baseball and Cowboys Football and enjoyed watching their games.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his son and daughter: Brent Venvertloh and Paula Johnson, both of Quincy. Brothers and sisters: Grace (Paul) Link of Appleton, WI; George Jr. (Emillie) Venvertloh, Rosie (John) Baker, Joe (Karen) Venvertloh, all of Quincy; and Marcia (Dennis) Barry of Liberty, IL. A brother and sister-in-law: Bob and Jane Wort of Mt. Sterling, IL. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Bill was preceded in death by his grandson, Tyler Johnson; his parents, his mother and father-in-law Harry and Marie Wort; brothers and sisters, Robert Venvertloh, Mick (Joe) Ehrhardt, Mae (Wally) Rupert, Esther (Gib) Dietrich, Harold Butch Venvertloh, LeRoy (Mary) Venvertloh and two sisters in infancy. Brothers and sisters in law, Marilyn (Jack) Mitchell and Jimmy (Norma) Wort; Nephews, Greg Mitchell, Shad Baker, and Terry Wort; Nieces Colleen (Link) Harvey and Gail Wort.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Interment to follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Sunday, November 16, 2025, from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Transitions of Western IL in memory of Tyler Johnson, Knights of Columbus TV Mass for Shut Ins, or St. Francis Solanus School.
