Richard Ruggiero

QUINCY -- Richard M. "Rick" Ruggiero, 68, of Quincy, peacefully died at home at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015.

Rick was born Sept. 14, 1946, in Summit, N.J., the son of Michael C. and Frances Missiano Ruggiero. He married Becca Tobias on Aug. 21, 1982, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Carthage, and she survives.

He came to the Tri-State area to attend college. He put himself through Culver-Stockton College by playing in the rock band, the Trolls. Later, while attending Gem City School of Horology, he played with Fred Tieken and the Rockers. When enlisting in the Army, he said he would prefer being a spectator, so they handed him a camera. He was combat photographer in Vietnam. He was briefly assigned to the FBI after returning stateside. He was employed by Eastman Kodak and Jost and Kiefer before starting his career with Moorman Manufacturing/ADM Alliance where he retired after 38 years.

He was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors in addition to his wife include three brothers-in-law, Keenan Tobias of Palmyra, Mo., Kent Tobias of Pennsylvania and Kory (Melissa) Tobias of Carthage; a sister-in-law, Debra (Mark) Twaddle of Lisle; nieces and nephews, Justin (Elizabeth) Tobias of Palmyra, Roxanne Tobias of Monroe City, Mo., Spencer, Ryan and Kate Twaddle of Lisle, Orinda Tobias of Warsaw, and Kari Ann Tobias of Carthage; a great-nephew, Jacob Tobias of Palmyra, and his father-in-law, Merlin Tobias of Carthage.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in New Providence Cemetery near Ursa.

VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.

MEMORIALS: ALS Association of Iowa, Great River Honor Flight and Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
