Robert Lee Latimer Sr. (75) of Newark, MO was called home to his heavenly Father, October 6, 2023, on Missouri Route E south of Newark, MO.
Visitation will be held Sunday, October 15, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Monday, October 16, 2023, at Heartland Community Church, 6434 Shelby Co Rd 150, Bethel, MO; with Rev. Gary Coleman officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in rural Bethel, MO.
Robert, known as "Hoss" by his friends was born on the Knox and Shelby County line at his grandparent's farm on April 5, 1948, to Harold and Dorothy (Wood) Latimer.
Robert was a Knox County High School graduate, class of 1966 in Edina, MO.
He was united in marriage to Debra "Debby" Hinkle on December 31, 1969, at the Baptist Church in Newark, MO by the Rev. James Minor.
Robert and Debby raised three children: Robert Jr. "Rob", John, and Elizabeth "Beth" in Newark, MO. Robert worked at the MFA fertilizer plant in LaBelle, MO for 42 years and retired in 2014, but continued working seasonally until 2018. Robert was a founding member of the Newark Volunteer Fire Department and served as Treasurer. Most recently he was a Greeter at the annual Newark Fire Department Fish Fry. He was a long-time member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church of Steffenville, MO where he served as a Deacon for the last 20 years.
Robert is survived by his wife, Debby Latimer of Newark; son, Rob (Kathryn) Latimer of Jefferson City, MO; daughter, Beth (Kyle) Clay of LaBelle, MO; daughter-in-law Kathleen Latimer of Mesquite, TX; sister, Meredith (Robert) Parsons of Salem, MO; sisters-in-law, Cathy Latimer, Marcia Epping, Sandy Grimm, Lisa Gosney, and many nieces and nephews. Grandchildren include Amber, Scotty (Kaylie), Tré, Anthony, Alex, Cameron, Rachel, Grace, Chris, Matt, Mikayla, Demari and great-grandchildren Addyson, Alicia, Adrian, Audrianna, and River.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Harold & Dorothy Latimer, his parents-in-law, Wilbur & Martha Hinkle, his brother, Ronald Latimer, his son, John Latimer, nephews David Wiemelt, Derrick Gosney, Brad Boruff and several aunts and uncles.
Robert faithfully read his Bible daily, enjoyed watching episodes of Gunsmoke, John Wayne movies and football. He enjoyed word search puzzles, playing cards and sitting on the front porch. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family, and friends. He liked to coon hunt with his good friend Bobby Patchin. He loved to travel with his wife and family, read Louis L'Amour books, he never met a stranger and had a great sense of humor.
Whenever Robert was asked how he was doing, he would answer "Fair to Midland".
