Rose Marie Vance Plummer Brooks, age 98, of Quincy, Illinois passed away at 8:12 a.m. Monday, August 25, 2025 at her beloved Curtis Creek residence in Quincy.
She was born July 3, 1927 in Augusta, Illinois the daughter of Glen Allen "Jim" and Fredda Marie Lamma Vance. She married Russell Plummer and he preceded her in death and she later married Merle Brooks who also preceded her in death.
Rose, who her family lovingly nicknamed "Doc Brooks" worked as a Registered Surgical Nurse at both Blessing Hospital and Quincy Clinic for many years.
She graduated from Rushville High School with the class of 1944 at the age of 16 and then went to work at a restaurant in Mt. Sterling before being accepted into Blessing Hospital School of Nursing where she received her Nursing Degree in 1948. Later in life Rose returned to Quincy College to further her education and was proud to have earned her Bachelors of Medical Arts in Health Science Degree.
She was a member of Faith Journey Church in Quincy and more recently attended The Crossing in Quincy.
Rose truly loved her family and had an instrumental part in her nieces and nephews education through the years.
Survivors include one sister Phyllis Vanzant of Mt. Sterling, Illinois. Two sisters-in-law Betty Vance of Hannibal, Missouri and Sharon Lamma of Carlinville, Illinois. Five step children Steven Duffield, Loretta Leroy, David Duffield, Bill Duffield and Mary Alice VanHuffel also survive along with several step grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers Ed and Dick Vance and Bill and Bob Lamma and four sisters Ruth Perry, Inez McNeff, Betty Lou Perry and Isabelle "Punkin" McClelland.
All services will be private with internment to be held in the Hersman Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice or Brown County Against Cancer and may be left at or mailed to Hendricker Funeral Home, 406 South Capitol Avenue, Mt. Sterling, Illinois 62353.
