Sally Ann Zanger

Sally Ann Zanger, 67, of 2515 Chatten Drive, died at 8:25 p.m. Thursday (June 5, 2014) in Sunset Home.

She was born Sept. 22, 1946, in Quincy, a daughter of Robert Allen and Dorothy Ann Grussenmeyer Griep. She married Robert William Zanger Jr. on Aug. 15, 1964, in Quincy. He survives.

Sally worked as a switchboard operator at Sears, then as secretary to the chief engineer at Gardner Denver, but her pride and joy was being a homemaker, and her most important job was being a mother and grandmother.

Sally was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ. She loved to sew, golf, bowl and get deals at antique stores, auctions or when shopping, especially at jewelry stores. She was an avid horticulturist, having also worked at the Hamann Florist greenhouse.

In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons, Christopher Robert (Lori) Zanger of Surprise, Ariz., and Mark Allen (Brandy) Zanger of Petersburg; four grandchildren, Andrew Christopher, Zachary William, Wolfgang Eli and Ripley Suann Zanger; a brother, James Warren (Marsha) Griep, of Peoria, Ariz.; an aunt, Marian Thomas, of Quincy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents; a special aunt, Etta (Albert) Saeger; and an uncle, Estel Thomas.

SERVICES: 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Kramer conducting. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 9, in the funeral home.
