Starr Barnette Spalding

Starr Barnette Spalding, 90, of Yuba City, Calif., died Monday, March 4, 2013, in Yuba City.

She was born May 14, 1922, in Illinois.

Starr was a wife and homemaker and married 70 years to the love of her life, Howard "Tony" Spalding.

She married Howard Spalding in Hannibal, Mo., and moved to California in 1942. There she worked for Marysville Tractor Co. before retiring to raise a family, her daughters, Robin and Janet.

Starr was a Pink Lady volunteer for more than 30 years at Rideout Hospital, a Camp Fire leader, an Inner Wheel member. She loved her bridge club and was noted for her generosity of giving her rare blood to blood banks monthly. She was a member of St. Isadore Catholic Church.

Starr was a wonderful cook and loved to travel with Howard. They went on 50 cruises during their marriage and traveled the world extensively. She loved their second home at Incline Village and she and Howard had fun entertaining family and friends there for many years. Starr enjoyed their Potluck Group, which got together every month for more than 50 years. These were her most cherished friends that shared the love of friendship and playing cards.

Starr is survived by her husband, Howard "Tony"; two daughters, Robin Vaccaro of Redwood City, Calif., and Janet Spalding of Yuba City; grandchildren, Sara Ochipinti of Yuba City and Brandon Vaccaro of Redwood City; and a sister, Donna Taylor of Oregon.

She was preceded in death by her father, Hugh Jackson "Jack" Barnette who died in 1925; mother, Ida Wernowsky Stinnett and stepfather, George "Jim" Stinnett; and a sister, Vernalee "Billie" Barnette Howard.

SERVICES: Friday, March 8, in the Sutter Cemetery, Sutter, Calif.
