Steven Baker Obituary

CLAYTON, Ill. -- Steven Campbell Baker was born Dec. 17, 1949, and died Sept. 17, 2018.

He is a son of William Roger Baker (Dec. 17, 1920 -- April 10, 2003) and Ruth Ellen Campbell Baker (July 16, 1920 -- June 16, 2006), and brother to Stanley Roger Baker (Sept. 26, 1943 -- Oct. 10, 2015), all originally from Clayton.

Steve married the love of his life, Joan Marie Langfelder, on July 9, 1971. His wife and mother were the most important people in his life, and he believed they were the strongest of angels here on Earth. His life was complete because of them.

Steve leaves behind his wife; daughter, Jessica Mary and her husband, Christopher Steven; daughter, Anna Ruth and her husband, Shane Adrian; his most precious and loved grandchildren, Jackson John Allen, Abigail Marie, Carter Steven, Ruby Ellen and Theo Jonas.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. graveside services Saturday, Sept. 29, in Old Salem Cemetery in Springfield, just off of Bradfordton Road and Old Salem Road/Old Salem Lane. A gathering celebrating Steve's life will take place immediately after the service at the Knights of Columbus Banquet Hall located at 2200 Meadowbrook Road in Springfield.

Steve's grandchildren will be honorary pallbearers. The following pallbearers will assist Steve to his final resting place: Christopher Steven, Shane Adrian, Timothy Allen, Ronald Jack, Leo Glenn, Ken Leon, Jay Paul, John Oswald and Joseph Oswald.

MEMORIALS: Steve was a kind and thoughtful person and truly believed in helping people whenever possible. Instead of providing flowers or donations, Steve requests everyone to do a good deed for someone else and pay it forward. Whether it be by holding the door open for someone, giving the last bit of money you have in your wallet to someone who really needs it, or simply asking someone how their day is going and taking the time to listen to them. Take the time to extend your hand in kindness to all the individuals you encounter throughout your life.
