Sheila Anastas
July 20, 2010
I just learned of Sylvester's death. News travels slow to Connecticut. He and my late father, John Anastas, were first cousins. My father and Sylvester always enjoyed their infrequent talks whenever they visited each other across the half continent that usually separated them. My favorite memory is my father and Sylvester taking me for a "tour" of Melrose during a family reunion, and reminiscing about the old indian burial ground on the Bordewick family property, and their parents and grandparents buried at St. Anthony's. Sylvester always seemed to have a twinkle in his eye. Another was waking up very early in Mary's former bedroom on one of my family's visits and listening to the bird song on the farm and thinking what it was like back in 1848 when the Bordewicks, Grawes and Tholes came over from Germany. Sylvester was always a "present" person, not interested in the past much, but my father being from away was very greatful to Sylvester when he let us into the old abandoned John Bordewick house, since demolished, so we could see some of our heritage in the same state as it was since right after WWII. I'm sure he would have been only mildly interested that I've made contact in my genealogy search with the family back in Haselune, Germany. A very nice person, who will be missed.

I am so sorry I did not see that your father had passed away. I know he enjoyed watching us all play softball. I will keep you in our prayers.
