Sylvia Brocksieck Obituary

Sylvia Ann Brocksieck age 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, surrounded by her family at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, IL. She was born on January 31, 1930, in Quincy. The daughter of William and Anna (Schutte) Thien. She was the youngest of their 9 children.

Sylvia attended St. John Catholic School in Quincy and Quincy Senior High-School.

She married Edward Lawrence Brocksieck on May 16, 1959, in St. John Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on August 6, 2018.

In her younger years, Sylvia worked at Schaffer Pen and Motorola. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, camping, and playing cards. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and Ladies of the Blue Knights.

Sylvia was a homemaker and took great pride in a clean home and 3 home cooked meals every day for her family. She had a quiet, caring personality. She dearly loved her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. She especially enjoyed the girls' trips with her daughters and daughter-in-law.

Sylvia is survived by five children: Judy Hoffman and her husband John of Quincy; Joseph Brocksieck and his wife Sheila of Quincy; Linda Taylor and her husband Brian of Durham, MO; Patricia Bohne and her husband Richard of Quincy and Sharon Durst and her husband Doug of Quincy.

Seven grandchildren: Jennifer Eling; Kyle (Grace) Brocksieck; Adam Brocksieck; Justin (Kayla) Taylor; Jacob (Stacey) Bohne; Erin Bohne and Austin Durst.

Six great-grandchildren: Benjamin and William Eling; Owen and Olivia Bohne; Bristol Taylor, and another baby Taylor on the way; and Drew Brocksieck.

In addition to her husband Edward and her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by 2 brothers Ralph and Wilbur Thien, and 6 sisters. Edith Chandler, Anna Mae Phillips, Helen Gerding, Margaret Maas, Virginia Halfpap, and Evelyn Grossman.

The family extends their thanks to the professionals at the Illinois Veteran's Home and the Activities crew for their wonderful care and would also like to thank Blessing Palliative Care and Hospice.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. at Duker and Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is Friday evening from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Solanus Catholic Grade School, Illinois Veterans Home Activities Fund, or Fishing for Freedom. Messages may be shared online at www.dukerandhaugh.com
