Friends and Family are invited to Tom's Life Celebration at a visitation that will be Thursday, July 13, 2023, from 10:00 am to 10:45 am at the O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy.
A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 am Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Quincy. Monsignor Michael Kuse will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Quincy.
Tom was born May 10, 1949, in Quincy, IL to Theodore and Mildred (Ridder) Glosemeyer.
He was married to the love of his life, Carole Spilker, on November 10, 1973, at St. Boniface Church in Quincy. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary later this year. Carole survives.
In addition to his wife, other survivors include his two children, Theodore "Ted" Glosemeyer (Michelle) of Montgomery, IL and Kelle Beswick (Michael "Ross") of Quincy, IL; four grandchildren, Annalise Rose Glosemeyer and Ashton, Ava, and Allie Beswick; one sister, Mildred Marie Glosemeyer SSND of St. Louis, MO; one brother-in-law, Ronald Spilker of Quincy, IL; and one niece, Brianna Spilker of Quincy, IL.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Mildred, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alfred and Mildred Spilker.
Tom graduated from 8th grade at St. Boniface School in 1963 and from Christian Brothers High School in 1967. Immediately following graduation, he went on to work as a bank teller at Mercantile Bank starting at the age of 18. He continued working there for over 40 years until his retirement.
Tom was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Quincy. He was formerly a member of St. Boniface Church, where he served in several capacities for St. Boniface School over the years, including president of The Parents and Friends Club, member of the school board, and part of the scouting program.
Tom was an avid collector of model trains and cars. He collected box trains, electric model trains, model cars, and diecast cars. In fact, his entire ping pong table was covered in his train and car collection! Tom was a diehard St. Louis Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys fan, with his favorite Cowboy being Roger Staubach. He also followed Quincy Notre Dame football and basketball, as well as University of Notre Dame football. Reading Stephen King novels, watching Matlock and Gunsmoke on TV, and enjoying Dairy Queen blizzards were a few of his other favorite things. His favorite restaurants were Coach House and Sprout's, but nothing beat his daily McDonald's lunch! In his later years, Tom enjoyed playing bingo regularly and enjoying the tunes from the "piano man" at Good Samaritan Home every month. He also loved doing crossword puzzles and playing card games like Kings in the Corner and Go Fish. Most of all, Tom always cherished and made time for his family, whether that meant drives with Carole, family trips to Osage Beach, or spending time with his beloved grandchildren. He was known for always giving his granddaughters the best fist bumps, followed by a big smile! Tom loved talking and listening to others simply because he loved people so much. He will be remembered for his friendly nature, his devout Catholic faith, and his steadfast love for his family.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff of Good Samaritan Home for their loving care of Tom during his stay there.
Memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Home or Quincy Kennel Club.
