Mr. Abernathy was born on March 16, 1948, in Cleveland, Georgia to the late James Caffus Abernathy and Bonnie Beatrice Dean Abernathy. He was a self-employed carpenter. Roy was preceded in death by several family members.
Survivors include his daughter, Cassie Abernathy, Carrie Moore (Colby); son, Scott Abernathy (Tonya); companion, Percy Spencer, also known as his "better half."
A gathering of family and friends was held Nov. 7, 2025.
