Louis Baylor Obituary
BAYLOR-Louis Peter Baylor, M.D. On September 19, 2005, at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach Ca. Louis Peter Baylor was ushered into heaven by the thunder and lightning of the tropical storm that hit Southern California that same night. Born to Ira Peter and Clara Mae Baylor in Danville, Pennsylvania, on November 12, 1917, he completed his under graduate studies at Susquehana University and then earned his Doctorate in Medicine at Hahnemann Medical Colle ge in Philadelphia. During this time, he was excited to play a very brief stint with the Eagle-Steelers (now the Pittsburgh Steelers). Following Army basic training and an accelerated medical training program in Oakland Regional Hospital, he was assigned to a colorful tour of duty stationed in Santa Barbara and Fort Bragg, including time as a paratrooper. His Army obligation ultimately took him to Okinawa where, through obvious divine providence he was to meet his wife, Janyce E. Sauls, a physical therapist also serving in the Army. Now starting his family, Dr. Baylor opened his first office in Pennsylvania, but his eye was on the West Coast again, and in 1952 he opened his practice in Whittier California. Following the lure of the beach, Louis and his family, now including four children, traded their suburban lifestyle for the coastal tranquility of Laguna Beach. It was then that he practiced emergency medicine at Hoag Hospital in Newport, a high-energy practice that suited him well and gave him great pleasu re. After more than 50 years of his medical career, Dr. Baylor retired in 1989 to spend more time with family, friends - and the tennis court.Louis was a member of Mariner's Church in Irvine, California, a lifelong member of the American Medical Association, was a World War II Veteran with a tour of duty as a physician in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club in Whittier for years, and for several years attending physician for the Whittier High School Football Team. He had a wide variety of interests including photography, oil painting and sketching, flying in his Cessna Cub, coin and stamp collecting, and was an avid reader of Medical information (his colleagues said about him "his eye is never sleeping, for knowledge he is always seeking"). He kept in shape by swimming, jogging, playing tennis and golf. Louis leaves his dear wife Janyce, his children: Joan Marie Baylor of Monarch Beach, California; Richard Louis Baylor and wife Dorothy of Rancho Santa Margarita, California; Julie Ann Bayl or Brinkley of Newport News, Virginia; and Jane Louise Baylor Selway of Marysville, Washington. He is also survived by grandchildren, Mark Jerome Angulo of Maui, Hawaii; Andrew Louis Angulo and wife Corinne of Castle Rock, Colorado, Stephany Anne Stocks of Beale AFB Yuba City, California; Lindsay Kathleen Brinkley of Boulder, Colorado; Juli Marie Rutledge of Lake Stevens, Washington; Allison Jane Selway of Marysville, California; and Nicholus David Selway of Kirkland, Washington.
