Sean Lafferty Obituary

Sean P. Lafferty, originally of Burlington, raised his family in Acton and lived in Westford for the past 9 years, died Thursday, December 17, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He was 55 years old. Sean was born in Cambridge on July 4, 1960, son of the late William J. and Harriett L. Lafferty. Sean graduated from Northeastern University and received his Juris Doctor Degree from New England School of Law. Seans 25 year career in private practice earned him a reputation of a passionate and tenacious litigator and one of the most highly regarded and trusted, union side labor attorneys. Joining his father practice, Lafferty & Lafferty which began in 1973, Sean and Bill specialized in representing police and firefighter unions, as well as federal employees, most notable Postal employees and Air Traffic Controllers. An untiring advocate for social justice, Sean believed profoundly in the principle that working men and women deserved fair treatment in the workplace and passionately pursued that goal. Earning a reputation for honesty and integrity, with a razor-sharp wit, it wasnt uncommon for Sean to represent clients for most of their working careers. During his distinguished career, Sean tried or settled hundreds of grievance arbitrations, negotiated labor agreements, resolved bitter strikes, and counseled thousands of workers on their workplace rights. In his free time, Sean enjoyed boating with his family at his home on Lake Winnipesaukee in his younger years. In more recent time, Sean enjoyed spending time with his family at his home on Sand Key in Clearwater, Florida. Sean was an avid reader, a zealous democrat, and his wifes favorite cook. Sean is survived by his beloved wife of thirty years, Robin (Bemis) Lafferty. He was the loving father of Ryan P. Lafferty of Acton, Kara Lafferty and her husband Taylor Kurth of Acton, and Brendan Lafferty of Westborough. Adoring grandfather of Reagan Lafferty and William Kurth. He was the loving brother of Brian C. Lafferty of Concord & Spring Hill, Florida, Karen Munroe and her husband Henry of Burlington, and Kerry Ross and her husband Will of Burlington. Favorite uncle to Meaghan Lafferty, Devon and Conor Ross. A Mass of Christian Burial was held in St. Margarets Church in Burlington on Monday, December 21 and Burial with his parents in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington. Memorials in Seans name may be made to Lowe Center for Thoracic Oncology, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave., D1240, Boston, MA 02215. I watched his work at his finest, mopped the room of five FAA lawyers by himself. Recommended many clients to this wonderful man.

Thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. There is little that I can say or do to ease your pain and suffering. May knowing that you are in the thoughts and prayers of many, bring a measure of comfort. Life is so short and those we love are gone from our lives too quickly. God's promise to empty the grave in the near future is found at Hosea 13:14.may

I am a Federal Government Attorney. I had many cases against Mr. Lafferty. In my dealings with him, 2 things quickly became apparent: 1. He was truly a zealous advocate for his clients and 2. He was extremely well versed in the law.

The legal industry lost a great attorney. My deepest condolences to the Lafferty family. RIP Sean, it was nice working with you.

My brother Sean's legacy won't be the careers he saved for 100's of government employees, nor the $100,000's he spent on every possible recreational vehicle and equipment. From boating, to jet skiing, to snowboarding and snowmobiling, his children got to try them all. Countless recreational dealers in NH could almost retire on what Sean spent in his relentless pursuit of family activities.

Sean's legacy will always be the family he nurtured and the family he and his wife Robin, created.

For the last 30 years, Sean was the glue that held his first family together. Whether it was his younger sister moving all over the world with her military family, his older sister traveling the world as a USAF Contracting Specialist, his prodigal brother doing whatever he was doing or the untimely death of our Mother, the painful loss of our father, Sean held us together and never let us forget we were family and family trumped all.

For the last 30 years, he and his wonderful wife Robin, created their own family to be proud of. Where and how he learned how to do it, will always escape me.

From humble beginnings in a tiny apartment in Acton, Sean and Robin raised a family endowed with the values, traditions and innocence we grew up with in the 60's. With the sense of independence and awareness of the 70's and 80's, the success driven lessons of the 90's and the fast moving, new world of 21st Century.

As I've often told my daughter, my sole role in life is to teach her to be a decent person and take care of herself. Sean was able to accomplish this goal, 3 times over. Ryan, Kara and Brendan will be eternally grateful for the Dad who taught them to take care of themselves and be decent, accomplished individuals. Reagan, Liam and Kara's baby girl joining us next year, will be forever grateful for the values Sean instilled in their parents and the example he set for all of us.

We will surely miss Sean every day, for the rest of our lives. His spirit and legacy of decency, honesty and example, will live on forever in our hearts and in the eyes of his wife, children and grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

You were the best Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Grandfather and Uncle, that anyone could have wished for. Godspeed Sean and please keep watching over us.
