So here it is nine years later. And I think of you so very often Henry. Knowing you and working with you permanently altered my approach to Life. No thought or idea too "out there" or crazy or impossible.
Well, almost no thought. haha. What Great Luck to know you. You instilled and encouraged confidence in all who had the good fortune to learn how to learn from you. Always remember the bell jar of unfinished lunches in your office growing mold, the meeting when Frank Gardner demonstrated the explosive capabilities of Helium, hahaha, and all of the Road Warrior practical jokes you so patiently tolerated. haha.
That was it....CURIOSITY !!!!! Start there ! The real first step of the Scientific Process. And FUN ! Not only acceptable, but a desirable and respectable way to learn... and TEACH !!!!! The best job I ever had. The best boss I ever had. Some of the happiest years of my life. Chris Viegaard, Road Warrior, Gloucester

Still remember how wonderful and inspiring Henry was when I had a week sabbatical with him in the museum of science. I think it was the late 1990s. Wonderful warm amazing man!

I met Henry through through the teacher workshops at the museum when I was my last few years as a framingham fourth grade teacher. Henry opened up the world to us....with his love, happiness and knowledge. He would laugh each time he introduced me to another one of his wonderful creative colleagues at the museum because I would always ask"what
made you decide to come and work here?" It got to a point where I did say it so frequently that he would automatically turn to
me every time he introduced me to another colleague at the museum. I have thought of you often, Henry, and am so sad to
hear of your passing. I, too, collect sand, and think of you....will continue to do so in your memory.

Sitting down at my computer tonight, I had the sudden urge to look up my old friend Henry and tell him about my new Cabinet of Curiosities. It is with a heavy heart that I discovered about his passing. While I know there are many people who had closer relationships with Henry than I, he is one of the people that I consider a true mentor and friend in my life. He was a real inspiration for how I have moved on in my life professionally, and there is a little bit of Henry living on in every kit I create, and every program I present.

Truly, a giant has fallen.

Henry was a gifted instinctive teacher. Walking through the Province Lands with him or viewing the world in a glass always yielded fresh facts and opinions of value. He knew his world and shared it warmly. Thanks, friend.

After reading the beautiful words of Henry's friends, I can't help but think how modest he would have been had he read all of those kind words. As a Road Warrior, I got to witness, and join to a lesser degree, Henry on his mission to improve the educational experience of every teacher and student in the world. I respected and admired his Aristotle-like approach to learning. Wasn't it wonderful to learn hands-on with Henry as your guide ? And the encouragement he gave me ! And the confidence he had in me ! Always positive, and always with humor.
I told him many times, that he was the best boss I ever had. I echo Zabeth's remark, that I always loved going to work at MoS. He changed me for the better. Thank you Henry. Love. Chris

Henry, I will miss your laugh and your smile that always made your eyes twinkle and look like a little boy. I will always remember your humor, your teddy bear, and your love of having turtles in the "cement pond". Godspeed to you. Your memory will live on in the hundreds of people you touched during your life.

Henry, you were one of the most wonderful people I have ever met. You supported and nourished the creativity of all around you and gave us space to grow and learn and be human. I loved coming to work when I worked for you at the Museum of Science.

Thank you for everything! I miss you deeply, but know that if there is a heaven, you are showing the cherubim new tricks with coat hangers and batteries.

Dear Henry,

You were a friend and mentor for me from the age of eleven and held a key role in my life during my impressionable years. You were always there with your thoughtful and whitty help including everything from taking me under your wing at the inception of Science Kits in 1984 all the way through the the tough professional and family decisions throughout much my life. Your more recent nickname for me 'Old Man' always makes me smile when I think of it. To this day, I still collect sand on your behalf when I go strange end exotic places.

The good world is spinning a little off-kilter as your passing sends it out of balance.

Goodby my dear friend.

To Henry's family and friends,

I am devastated by the news of his passing. He was my colleague in Arlington, and I had the pleasure of attending many events that he planned at the Museum of Science.

Henry was a devoted educator and one of the kindest individuals that I have ever met. He will be greatly missed by all who had the honor to know him. May he rest in peace.
