Lorna Coutts Obituary

Lorna May (Christie) Coutts, 89, of Boxborough, died on December 30 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born in Melbourne, Quebec, Canada on May 21, 1923 daughter of the late Reuben and Madonna (Gereaux) Christie and was the wife of the late James Donald Coutts who died in 2000 and the mother of the late Major James Bruce Coutts. She moved to Island Pond, VT at a young age and graduated from Brighton High School in Brighton, VT. Lorna moved to Massachusetts and graduated from Mt. Auburn School of Nursing in Cambridge in 1942. She then joined the U. S Army Nurse Corpse as a First LT in WW2 serving in Italy. She was married in 1947 and had made her home in Boxborough since 1961. Mrs. Coutts returned to Mt Auburn Hospital as a supervisor of nursing for several years. She later worked with her husband at their business, J. Coutts and Son Company, now operating as Coutts Specialty Foods. Mrs. Coutts is survived by 4 daughters: Lorna and her husband Raymond Rush of Littleton, MA, Alison Chateauneuf of Boxborough, MA, Martha, and her husband, Alfred Eisenberg, of Francestown, NH and Janet L. Coutts of Westborough, MA, 2 sisters, Norma Meredith of Island Pond, VT, Roberta Lybrand of Hollywood FL, and a brother Robert and his wife, Irene Christie, of Island Pond, VT. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Cydney Cotter, Wesley Rush, Cameron Chateauneuf, Graham Chateauneuf, Rachael Coutts, Stephanie Harris and the late Evan Chateauneuf. She has 7 Great Grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 4-8 pm and a Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 4, at 10 am at the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King St., Littleton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Hospice of the North Shore and Greater Boston, 70 Walnut Street, Wellesley, MA 02481 or Loaves & Fishes, P.O. Box 1, Ayer, MA 01432.
