Edward Wharton Obituary

Edward J. Wharton, age 63, of Braintree, formerly of Dorchester, died peacefully, Sunday, February 14, 2021, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family. Eddie was born, raised, and educated in Dorchester. He was a graduate of Don Bosco High School. He had lived in Braintree for the past thirty-two years. Eddie was employed as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for thirty years and retired in 2012. He was an avid reader and a history buff. Blessed with the "gift of gab", he entertained many with his stories. Most of all, Eddie enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. Beloved husband for twenty-nine years of Kelly M. (Skahan) Wharton. Devoted father of Kerri Healy and her husband John, Kristen Walsh and her husband Keith, Corey Wharton, Andrew Wharton, and Paul Wharton, all of Braintree. Loving grandfather of Kelsey, Jack, and Owen. Dear brother of Barbara Turner of North Carolina and Debbie Turner of Abington. Son of the late Edward Wharton and Barbara (Bostrom) Brown. Eddie is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Due to occupancy limits at the church, a memorial funeral Mass will be celebrated privately in Saint Francis of Assisi Church, Braintree. A celebration of Eddie's life will take place at a later date when circumstances permit. In lieu of flowers, donations in Edwards memory may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168 or www.jimmyfund.org. The Wharton family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff and nurses of Dana-Farber Medical Oncology and Emerson 6 of South Shore Hospital for the compassionate care provided to Eddie. Arrangements were under the direction of the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy. You are invited to visit www.thesweeneybrothers.com or call 617-472-6344.

Very sorry for your loss. Ed was a great neighbor and friend. We had many a conversation “over the fence”. He always made us feel comfortable when we were new to the neighborhood. We will miss him. Prayers and condolences to the whole Wharton Family

It was a pleasure to know and work with Eddie while we were at the Braintree DMU.I don't ever remembering him not smiling unless he was arguing with a boss over O.T.. To the Wharton family my deepest sympathies. RIP Eddie
