Charles Lockwood Obituary

Charles Buz Lockwood, 77, of Naples, FL, died May 4, 2010. Born in 1932 in Fall River, Mass., he was the second of five children, son of the late Charles and Gladys Lockwood and part of a hardworking, energetic, generation. After graduating in 1950 from high school in Framingham, Buz served in the U.S. Army for five years, attaining the rank of sergeant first class. After graduating from Boston University in 1958, He accepted an accounting position with Bethlehem Steel working for the main office in Bethlehem, PA, and Sparrows Point Shipyards in Baltimore, MD, where he also attended law school at the University of Maryland. Buz earned his MBA from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, while working at Bethlehem Steel. From 1971-1987, Buz served as CFO for Kusan, Inc., in Nashville, TN, a subsidiary of Bethlehem Steel. He enjoyed all sports, especially golf and baseball, spending many years coaching little league baseball teams. After retiring to Marco Island, FL in 1988, he served as Vice-Chairman of Drug Transport Inc., which he owned with his brother, Dick Lockwood. In retirement, Buz formed close friendships at the Hideaway Beach Club and The Marbelle in Marco Island and The Classics at the Lely Resort in Naples. Buz married his high school sweetheart, Josephine Jo Belcastro, in 1952, and had a storybook marriage for 58 years. Buz and Jo created countless memories together, spending summers and early fall in Cape Cod and New Hampshire. Their deep love and friendship served as a model for many. They have one son, Larry, a finance professor at TCU, who resides with his wife, PJ, in Arlington, TX. Also residing in Arlington, are Buz and Jos two grandchildren, Jimmy and Daniel. Jimmy, his wife Jenny, and Daniel shared many unforgettable times with Drammy and Buzzy. Buz will always be known as a great son, brother, husband, dad, grandfather, and uncle. He shared a life-long, loving, and close relationship with his sisters, Jackie, Gerry, and Judy, and his brother, Dick. His love, devotion, and generosity to family and friends shaped his life. His many nephews and nieces knew him lovingly as Uncle Buz. He was their mentor and voice of reason. An optimist, Buz always looked at what he could achieve in life and of how he could help others do the same. His sense of humor and courageous spirit were contagious, and were never more evident than during his recent illness. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends. We are all better people for his being among us. God blessed him with great gifts that he used and appreciated. He was a great man, in every way. A memorial service will be held at St. Judes Catholic Church in Boca Raton, FL at a later date. The family requests that memorial donations be made to your favorite charities.
