Dear Marina, Andy (as I knew you), Trisha, and Kristen,
The three years we spent in Hyde Park were very special to me. It was there, with your mom and dad as our mentors, that the Nietert family first took shape. Many a Friday night we spent in conversation with them, talking about the parish and how we fit in, what it meant to be good parents, and what God was calling each of us to do and be.
Later, after their divorce and ours, your father and I still kept in touch, usually in response to my Christmas card. He was so proud of each of you and loved talking about your accomplishments. At one point, when I was looking for a new job, he was very helpful helping me assess my strengths and weaknesses.
Frank Mahlau was a complicated guy, full of passion and a lot of "down to earthness". I thank God for putting him in my life.
Peace and love to each of you,
Anne
PS The painting of St James, Hype Park, that was given us when we moved to Dobbs Ferry, now proudly hangs in my study.

Father Mahlau was a wonderful man, both in his role as Pastor to St. James, as well as his ability to be a true friend to his congregation. Frank was always willing to help those who were in need of guidance and was someone to talk to in times of need. Our family took great pleasure in knowing Father Mahlau as our Priest and as a friend. Even when he left St. James to move to Boston, we would visit him often. He loved his vocation and his congregations. Frank will always have a special place in our hearts and memories. May God bless Frank and look over his family. He will be missed.
