Martin Schleifer Obituary

MARTIN NORMAN SCHLEIFER Martin Norman Schleifer died unexpectedly June 29, 2010 at the of age 77. Following his service in the U.S. Army, this Brooklyn, NY native moved to Philadelphia. He formed lifelong friendships and punctuated his worktime as an engineer, with worldwide adventures in the company of his close pal, Larry Roseman. In 1987 he discovered Santa Fe, where his offbeat humor and generous nature drew many loyal friends to fill his retirement years. He was particularly happy with his constant companion, a setter-like adult stray dog he adopted and named "Lucky". Martin became VERY LUCKY. Together they explored the countryside and became regulars at the dog park. Lucky is now in a new home. Martin is survived by his devoted & loving sister, Mildred Dienstag of Manhattan, NY. Martin was buried in the Veteran's National Cemetery, Santa Fe. A Memorial will be held at Ortiz Dog Park near St. Frances and Alamo, Saturday, July 31st between 5:30 and 7:30 pm.

Martin lived around the corner from me. Second to his dog, Lucky, Martin's passion was good food, and he liked to share that. He'd often ring the doorbell to drop off some special trophy from the supermarket, or call to suggest lunch or dinner at a new restaurant he'd discovered.

I'd looked forward to continuing this easy relationship, and am saddened by its untimely end.

Lucky stayed with my wife and me during Martin's hospitalization and we've gladly adopted him. He is a gentle and kind spirit, like Martin.

Martin was a great neighbor! He was generous and kind through and through. I will miss him and Lucky. I know there are many others who will miss him too.
