Richard VanderMay Obituary

Richard John VanderMay, Jr., 67, went to the Lord on Sunday, January 25th, 2015. He passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 45 wonderful years, Mary Margaret of Comstock Park, MI; son Matthew of Grand Rapids, MI; daughter Emily Parker of Toledo, OH; sister Linda Lee Gregg of Fernandina Beach, FL; sister Judith VanderMay of Eastham, MA; two granddaughters; a dear aunt; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Rich left us too soon, but with many great memories to cherish and keep him alive in our hearts. He was always doing something for others and never complained, even when his health was failing. Rich was past president of the Orleans Rotary Club, Cape Cod, MA, and received the Paul Harris Fellow award. He was also a member of the Cashiers Rotary Club and a driving force in the Village Play playground project. Rich volunteered at too many churches to count, cooking and helping run the kitchen, and enjoyed singing in the choir, especially when it involved an organ. Rich was a supportive husband, wonderful dad, friend to many, and all around great guy. A service will be held at the Cashiers United Methodist Church on Sunday, February 22nd at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who wish to honor Rich make donations to Friends for Life Forever Farm at friendsforlifeforeverfarm.org; Cashiers Highlands Humane Society at chhumanesociety. org; or the account for the Eric John VanderMay Scholarship by emailing his son Matthew at [email protected] for information.

May the God of all comfort strengthen the entire family during this time of sorrow. Those who die God keeps in his memory because they are precious in his eyes. (Psalms 116:15) My sincerest sympathy.
