Edward Delaney Obituary

Edward F. Delaney Jr., 79, died September 23, 2011 at his home. He was born on June 6, 1932 in Boston, MA, the son of the late Edward F. Delaney Sr. and Rilla (Miller) Delaney. Edward grew up in Boston and formerly resided in Boxford, MA for 28 years where he raised his family and served as a volunteer fireman. Edward and his wife Margaret taught CCD and Confirmation classes at St. Rose of Lima parish in Topsfield. They spent many years at their summer home on Westport Island in Maine and loved to travel. He was employed as an independent sales representative dealing in electronic and automotive components for Stackpole Carbon Company of Pennsylvania. A resident of Brentwood, NH since 1999, Edward was an active Communicant of St. Michaels Parish in Exeter, NH where both he and his wife helped run the food pantry for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Edward was also skilled at woodworking and especially enjoyed making things for his grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret (Power) Delaney who died on January 9, 2007. He is survived by five sons, Peter and wife Christine Delaney of Boxford, MA, Paul and wife Susan Delaney of West Newbury, MA, Michael and wife Jennifer Delaney of Amesbury, MA, Mark and wife Terrie Delaney of Kingston, NH, and Matthew Delaney of Newton, NH; one daughter Sharon and husband Joe Rizzitano of Weare, NH; nine grandchildren; one brother Robert C. and wife Dale Delaney of Canyon City, CO; one sister Rita and husband John Connors of Peabody, MA; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2011 from 3:00-7:00 PM at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 26, 2011 at 10:00 AM at St. Michael Church, Exeter, NH. Burial will follow in the Brentwood Cemetery, Brentwood, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Exeter, c/o Michael House, 11 Linden St., Exeter, NH 03833.
